TRAINING

Weekly training opportunities are available at different locations within Melbourne.
Training sessions function in a buddy-style arrangement, but it is not a problem if you don’t come along with a buddy, as another member can spot you.

Training is available only to members. Prospective members are welcome to chat but are not allowed to enter the water in our dedicated lanes.

At a typical training session, you may find members at every skill level, from novices to competitive freedivers, following different training schedules. However, we try to pair members with similar skills so that people can have a safe and enjoyable training experience. While more experienced members help novices with freediving drills, we do not offer coaching; therefore, do not expect a structured training program to be followed, and be prepared to craft your own.

Although rare, some incidents may happen during training, such as blackouts, loss of motor control, or divers bumping into walls while swimming. If you witnessed any of these, please email the Pool and Training Officer (training@melbournefreedivers.org.au) with the details about the incident. Our club keeps a record of every incident to improve our safety record.

PAYING

Every training session has the same price, irrespective of location and duration (around 90 minutes).

There are two options to pay for the training:

  1. Single-pass (18.00$ for each training session);
  2. 4-Week pack  (90.00$ for 28 days)

    The package lasts 28 days from the date of purchase,  which translates into a cost of $11.25 per session when the member attends all eight sessions. If the member attended only seven sessions, the cost per session would be $12.86, increasing to $15.00 when only six sessions are attended.
    NOTE: Booking each session must be done even when a 4-Week-pack is used.
    NOTE: If a training session is canceled due to the swimming pool’s unavailability, no refund will be expected.
    NOTE: The pack is no longer valid after 28 days from the date of purchase and will not be refunded.

  3. 10-Session pack  (160.00$ for 10 entries within 90 days),  which translates into a cost per session of 16.00$.
    NOTE: each session has to be booked even when owning a 10-session pack.
    NOTE: The pack is no longer valid after 90 days from the date of purchase and will not be refunded.
